The storyline of "Kick-Ass" has to do with a teenage boy, Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), who decides to turn himself into a bona fide superhero after being motivated by the heroes of comic books. Lizewski blunders in his initial attempt to combat crime, winding up severely wounded in the process (which results in a brief time spent in a hospital following his being stabbed). Dave is somehow undaunted by this minor setback, and winds up getting in the middle of a brawl outside a cafe. He fights them with two modified night sticks and wins. A male patron in the diner, who filmed the occurrences on his cell phone, asks Dave his identity, and Dave tells him: "I'm Kick-Ass". The video goes viral and becomes an Internet phenomenon, and "Kick-Ass" becomes an overnight star.

His efforts at being a super hero very quickly lead him to realize it isn't as glamorous as it appears. Soon he meets a strange young vigilante called Hit-Girl (Chloe Moretz), and her father Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage). They were already aware of the intrepidity of Kick-Ass through YouTube and the media. This resulted in them joining together to work on getting rid of the town crime syndicate boss Frank D'Amico (Mark Strong). Throughout the journey, Kick-Ass becomes acquainted with another hero, Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), who admires Kick-Ass's adventures.

Movie Review
This comedy is Laugh out Loud funny, and for a comedy the performances were good, but honestly I just found it to be Kick-ass. It is a crazy ride and I was amazed at how funny a movie could get. This flick really hits it out of the ball park, better than any superhero movies to date. It's doubtful that another movie will come along this year that's better than "Kick Ass."

"Kick-Ass" is a spin on the Millar & Romita Jr. Marvel Comics series by that title. In a movie business filled with self-promoting hype, tricks and unoriginality, "Kick Ass" leaps onto the screen and beats all expectations in its wake. "Kick Ass" doesn't want to be just good or better than average, it wants to be great and it has the brass to want to be original as well. It doesn't seem possible in a way overdone genre but "Kick Ass" is all about the unpredictable.

Visually "Kick Ass" really scores by maintaining simplicity while still having that wow factor. Let characters do their own cool stuff, rather than having Michael Bay-like things occurring to them. This is the reason the characters are so cool, regardless of Dave's mundane life. This is anybody doing the things any person could do if he/she desired to; not some guy from another planet or endowed with strong drive and fire in the belly. Dave is intent on hooking up. He wishes he were cool. You will even believe the bad guy. Seeing the tornado that is Hit Girl do a routine nearly right out of Jackie Chan's Hong Kong era shocks us in a manner that no big screen chase ever would. Visually the movie takes the whole thing we loved from films that didn't sparkle and blends them into a nicely balance, perfect concoction.

Kick Ass costumeMy general opinion was that it was sort of a mixture of "Spider-Man" and "Kill Bill". It has an everyday common childhood events side, with Peter Parkerish "unpopular" Dave Lizewski fantasizing about something else instead of his dull teenage lifestyle. Finally, as with most children his age, he decides to make a mark on the world by... putting on a costume and fighting bad guys. When we have accepted the concept that surely this won't work and that he will get beat up each time, he becomes more skilled, and also he has help with his quest.

Now we come to the movie's sarcastic side, best shown by "Hit-Girl" who is everybody's newest well loved comic strip character. Her expressive, murderous spaghetti-western persona is played with such infectious appeal that you can't help but come to life when she shows up on screen.

For films this amazing, the acting is generally almost an afterthought (demonstrated by James Cameron flicks). Not at all the case in this movie. Nicholas Cage as one might think, goes back to his previous glories, portraying bigger than life eccentric characters with a hint of melancholy as well. Along with him is Chloe Moretz, eternally destined to be looked back at for her initial key role. Aaron Johnson's job is the hardest. He leads the movie as if he scripted it, together with a cast in which even the tiniest roles are fully developed. It is a really wild group. A gang of renegade and disparate acting styles comes together to form the perfect scaffolding for the film's tongue-in-cheek style.

Viewing "Kick-Ass" is basically like being on a thrill-ride; it doesn't merely want to impress you, it wishes to engross you, take you along for the ride and exit the cinema on a high note. It doesn't rely on gimmicks and formula; instead it breaks the mold, tosses convention Kick ass the movieout the window and lets you be pleasantly surprised with references to movies you love. This is more than a movie, it is a classic, something that shows that movies can be penned with heartfelt inspiration and intelligence.

It was awesome!

The Soundtrack
The movie's soundtrack will come out as a single in the UK as of April 12, 2010. Pop performer Mika delivers the music, with RedOne as the producer, who is mainly known for working with Lady Gaga and Akon, plus additional popular musicians. There is a single with the same name as the film. There is confirmation that the soundtrack is being tossed around as a single for Mika.
